چکیده

How Destructive Is Creative Destruction? The Costs of Worker Displacement We analyze short and long-term effects of worker displacement. Our focus is on prime-age male workers displaced from Norwegian manufacturing plants. We find that displacement increases the probability of exiting the labor force by about 5 percentage points. This indicates that studies using data that do not incorporate workers leaving the labor force, may strongly underestimate the costs of displacement. The most productive workers are recalled, transferred to a different plant within the firm, or they move to the private sector. The least productive re-employed workers move to the public sector. Generally, the earnings effects are weak. When controlling for worker fixed effects, we find that all workers suffer some short-term losses, even those re-employed within the same firm, but the only workers that seem to suffer a permanent earnings loss are the few who move to the public sector. How Destructive is Creative Destruction? Investigating Long-term Effects of Worker

How long-lasting are the consequences of job loss for displaced workers? This paper addresses this question using matched employeremployee panel data from Norway for 1986-2000. We investigate the long-term impact of job displacement on future employment patterns and earnings. The focus is on workers who have been displaced by plant closing or been separated from downsizing plants. The results i...

A Novel Interactive Possibilistic Mixed Integer Nonlinear Model for Cellular Manufacturing Problem under Uncertainty

Elaborating an appropriate cellular manufacturing system (CMS) could solve many structural and operational issues. Thereby, considering some significant factors as worker skill, machine hardness, and product quality levels could assist the companies in current competitive environment. This paper proposes a novel interactive possibilistic mixed integer nonlinear approach to minimize the total co...

Thermo-economic Analysis of Power Cycles

Exergy analysis is based on combined first and second laws of thermodynamics and is a useful tool to analyze the energy systems in a better and more realistic way than an energy analysis, based on the first law of thermodynamics. Combination of exergy from thermodynamics with conventional concepts from engineering economy which is referred to as thermo-economy (exergo-economy) is a valuable too...

Indices that capture creative destruction: questions and implications

The paper argues that micro and macro economists interested in the dynamics of creative destruction can gain important insights by using indices that capture the effect of innovation on the relative position of firms. This is due to the uneven and “destructive” effect that radical innovation has on firm rankings. One such index is the market share instability index. On the financial side, the e...
